Bathroom Remodeling in Powder Springs, GA

Powder Springs is home base — the shop is here, which means most jobs in town get a same-week look rather than a slot three weeks out. It is also the one city where crews can come back the next morning to fix a detail without it costing half a day.

Bathroom Remodeling for Powder Springs homes

Mostly late-80s through 2000s subdivisions on wooded lots, with a core of older properties near the historic downtown. The 90s stock is now hitting the age where original builder-grade siding, trim and cedar decking need replacing rather than repainting — and where the first kitchens and baths are due their second remodel.

Bathroom Remodeling on Powder Springs houses

The 90s and early-2000s subdivisions around Flint Hill, Brownsville and Dillard were built with one-piece fiberglass tub-and-shower units, cultured-marble vanity tops and builder-grade vanities, and that first generation of baths is now due its second remodel. The fiberglass surrounds have gone chalky and flex at the corners, and the particleboard vanity under a cultured-marble top has usually wicked water at the base. On a second remodel we are often undoing a quick first fix as well — a tub liner dropped over the old fiberglass, or peel-and-stick tile laid straight on the existing floor — which hid the real condition of the substrate instead of correcting it. Pulling the fiberglass out is where the actual state of the walls finally shows.

What usually gets missed

The place these go wrong is tile set over whatever is already there. A lot of first remodels in this stock tiled a shower straight onto the old greenboard, or even over the fiberglass, to save a day — and that is exactly the assembly that fails. The greenboard behind a 90s surround is rarely a true waterproof backer, and tile on a flexing wall cracks at the grout lines and lets water in behind it. When we open one of these we take the wet wall back to the studs and start the backer fresh rather than tiling over a surface that was never meant to get wet.

On a Powder Springs job we check

  • Pull the fiberglass unit and inspect studs and subfloor at the tub base
  • Never tile over 90s greenboard — a flexing wall was never a backer
  • Check the vanity base and floor for cultured-marble overflow damage

What the job actually involves

Water is the thing that wrecks bathrooms. A good remodel is mostly waterproofing, ventilation and slope, with the visible tile and fixtures coming after.

We use cement board or a waterproof backer, a sealed membrane in showers, and mildew-resistant caulk and paint, because the finish layers only last if the water is kept out of the walls and floor.

How we run a bathroom remodeling job in Powder Springs

  1. 1

Demo and inspect for water damage

Old tile, tub, vanity and flooring come out down to the framing. We check the subfloor and wall studs for soft spots and rot, which are common around old tubs and toilets in humid climates.

  2. 2

Repair framing and rough-in plumbing and electrical

Rotted wood is replaced, plumbing is moved or updated, and wiring and fan circuits are brought up to date. Permitted work gets inspected at this stage.

  3. 3

    Waterproof the wet areas

Cement board or a foam backer goes up in showers and tub surrounds, and seams are sealed with a waterproofing membrane. Shower pans are sloped toward the drain and flood-tested before tile when the setup calls for it.

  4. 4

    Tile and flooring

Tile is set over a flat surface with the proper thinset and given time to cure before grouting. Rushing grout over wet thinset leads to cracks and loose tile.

  5. 5

    Vanity, fixtures, ventilation and paint

The vanity, toilet, faucets and lighting are installed. A working exhaust fan vented outside matters in Georgia humidity, otherwise mildew returns. Paint uses a moisture-resistant finish.

  6. 6

    Seal, clean and walk through

Grout is sealed where needed and silicone goes at corners and tub lines. We clean up and go through the room with you.

What moves the price

We will not quote Powder Springs blind over the phone — these are the things we look at on site that decide the number.

  • Size of the bathroom and whether the layout stays the same or fixtures move.
  • Shower or tub choice: standard tub, tiled shower, curbless or walk-in.
  • Tile type, pattern and amount. Detailed patterns and large-format tile need more labor.
  • Hidden damage, mostly rot in the subfloor and walls.
  • Vanity, countertop and fixture quality.
  • Plumbing, electrical and ventilation upgrades, including permits.

Bathroom Remodeling in Powder Springs — questions we get asked

How long will my bathroom be unusable?
A typical hall bath often takes a couple of weeks, sometimes longer for a full master bath or custom tile. Drying and curing time is part of that.
Do I need a second bathroom while you work?
It helps a lot. If this is your only bathroom, tell us and we will plan to shorten the time it is out, or discuss options.
Do you handle the plumbing?
We coordinate plumbing and electrical work and any required permits and inspections.
Can you convert a tub to a shower?
Yes, in most layouts. It involves changing the drain, framing and waterproofing, so it costs more than swapping a fixture.
What if you find rot?
We show you, explain the repair, and price it before continuing. It is common in older bathrooms and should be fixed rather than covered.
